After enjoying a filling breakfast, gear up for a thrilling adventure as you embark on a 2-hour drive to the Marangu gate, the starting point for your trek. From there, you will begin your ascent to Mandara hut, which is situated at an elevation of 2,700 meters above sea level. The hike to Mandara hut is relatively easy and takes about 3-4 hours, covering a distance of approximately 8 km.
As you hike, you will be surrounded by lush rainforests that are home to a variety of exotic flora and fauna, including monkeys, colobus, and birds such as turacos, hornbills, and sunbirds. You may also catch glimpses of Kilimanjaro's snowy peaks, which loom majestically in the distance. The hike to Mandara hut is a great way to kick off your Kilimanjaro trek and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Tanzania.

A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys. After lunch, hike back to park gate and drive back to Moshi.
