Today, we embark on a journey to Kibale Forest National Park, situated in Western Uganda. Covering an area of approximately 766 km2, this park boasts lush evergreen forests. Located 320 kilometers south of Kampala, Kibale National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity. Home to about 325 bird species, including the olive long-tailed cuckoo, Western Green tinker bird, African Grey Parrot, and Green-breasted Pitta, it is a birdwatcher's paradise. Additionally, the park is inhabited by 13 primate species and over 60 other mammal species.
One of the park's main attractions is the endangered chimpanzees. Visitors can embark on treks to observe these fascinating primates, along with other primates such as the red colobus monkey, L'Hoest's monkey, Uganda Mangabey, and the Ugandan Red Colobus. Upon arrival at the lodge/camp, a delicious lunch will be served, or alternatively, stop at a restaurant en route for a satisfying meal.

The park is home to over 400 gorillas, and the habituation process involves familiarizing gorillas with human presence so that they can be safely viewed by tourists. Habituation takes at least 2 years and is led by park rangers and researchers. During a habituation experience, visitors have the opportunity to spend 4 hours with a habituated gorilla group, observing their behavior and interactions in their natural habitat. Habituation experiences are limited to a maximum of 4 visitors per day and are more strenuous than regular gorilla trekking, as they require hiking through the forest. However, the unique opportunity to spend extended time with gorillas and learn about their behavior makes it a truly unforgettable experience. To ensure the safety of both visitors and gorillas, strict rules and guidelines are in place, and it is essential to follow the instructions of park rangers at all times.
